1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is here!

The idea is simple: read 1,000 books to your child before they begin Kindergarten.

  Did you say 1,000 books?

Reading 1 book a day will meet the goal in under 3 years.
Reading 3 books a day will meet the goal in under 1 year!

  How do we sign up?

Come in to the Library to sign up and get your awesome log book! The 1000 Books Log Book is a reading log and activity book that is designed to match the library’s 1000 Books reading challenge theme. As you track the reading on the Beanstack and mobile app, kids (ages 0-6) earn badges matched to stickers in the book.

The log contains lists of suggested titles, but you can read any books that capture your child’s interest. Log books read by librarians at story time. Read books in your native language. Read favorite books again and again! Every book counts!

You can register and log your books online on Beanstack or download the Beanstack tracker app and log books on your phone. You can register if you are an iPhone or Android user. Just search for "Beanstack Tracker" in the Google Play or App store.

Once you have read 100 books with your child, bring your log book to the library for a prize. If you are logging online, the librarian will be able to look up your child's name through Beanstack to verify the number of books read. When your child reaches the goal of reading 1,000 books, your child will earn their name in a Walled Lake Library book of their choice!

Research shows that reading to children from an early age can improve vocabulary and help prepare children for Kindergarten. Reading to children also begins the lifelong love of books and reading.

  Happy Reading!

Again, storytimes count toward books read! You can find a full schedule of Library events, including Storytimes, on our Event Calendar.
